Many pet owners cannot make their minds about a dog shock collar. In this cool video, there is an interesting alternative demonstrated :
I use slip chains for the "popping" sound, ( this can also be done with lots of tags on a flat collar or martingale in some dogs) and they must stay loose at all times. They are NOT to be used to "choke" your dog.
